Play and Learn

Heard of Jane McGonigal yet? Ranked the 16th best TED lecture in 2010 — one better than Bill Gates — she’s changing the way we learn and offering playtime for adults via ARG (alternate reality games). Jane’s latest, Find the Future at NYPL, blends research and writing with an overnight scavenger hunt at New York Public Library’s Stephen A. Schwarzman Building. Five hundred applicants will be selected to participate and in teams they’ll produce creative (written/drawn) submissions addressing their observations on what the future might bring based on historical documents. Using smartphones to locate QR codes placed throughout the collection, each quest will end with teams reflecting on the document located and compiling their submission based on all their brainstorming ideas. Now that’s spectacular mobile learning! If I was going to be in New York May 20th I’d apply in a heart-beat.
